 Need help?!?

My grandfather was a music teacher and he passed recently. He left some of his instruments and I have 3 clarinets that I found in his garage. I don’t play and I am sure they would go to go use with someone else. How do I find out how much they are worth? I can’t find the serial number as well. Can anyone help me with all of this? It’s a little overwhelming

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. That's lovely that he left you these instruments.

For identifying them - if you can work out what make and model they are you can look at the reseller prices online or look on ebay for similar models. If you see them online in an actual clarinet dealer, they will cost more because they will have been reconditioned in order to be in playable condition.

If you're not sure what they are, you could post photos here and people will have a look and be able to tell you.

Hope that helps.

Jen

Hi there, Jen is right- the best thing to do will be to post photographs (in particular, if we can see a logo on the Bell or top joint that will be super helpful. These are often quite faint, and hard to photograph, on older instruments.

Here are some photos of the instruments, if anyone could help maybe just guesstimate would help.

Thanks!

These are the last of them, if anyone has some guesses on to what they are worth the prestige has a number 22087 on the middle section. I thought I read that meant it was from 1938, not sure though.

Heres the last couple pictures.

I can't open the first one. But it looks like a Buffet RC Prestige alto clarinet based on what I can see. I actually may be interested in buying it if you want to send me an email. It is 1977 based on the serial number.

The second one is a slightly earlier alto, The nickel plating means it was made some time between the late 50s/early 60s and the 70s. This is most likely a "Radio Model" although it it strange it is not marked as such. For value, I sold mine for $1200 although it was freshly overhauled. I would say $1000 is a fair price but with the pandemic that might be hard (The alto is a somewhat niche instrument).

The third is an oboe, no clue about those...

A good guesstimate would come from ebay selling prices. Time to do your own research. There's a free for sale section on this site ...

There's a rule in the rules link above about not asking for an estimate on your instruments here on the bboard when you're looking to sell them. You could post thrm in the for sale section and see what offers are, or search ebay, but without good serial numbers you're going to have a heck of a time.
