I learned the reed modifications described in the drawing Ken posted from Earl Thomas

in 1968, when Earl was the principal clarinetist in the Oklahoma City Symphony (Brad Behn's current job) and I had the second clarinet position in the Tulsa Philharmonic (which was, many years later, Behn's first job). I wonder where those reed ideas originated. Earl never mentioned McLane but could, I suppose, have taken some lessons with him during his (Earl's) time at Julliard.
