thank you Clarinbass, this is really interesting. I've an old, very rattly alto clarinet (Selmer) and the rods move mightily side to side on the pivot screws when screwed up fully. As I rarely play the alto it's not really a problem but if you don't mind me asking - is there a DIY fix for this, replacement screws or a fix for worn internal diameter of the rods themselves??
