play in long rods of Bass clarinet

good morning
I have a 1995 Buffet RC Prestige bass clarinet which plays fine but has quite a bit of mechanical noise especially in the lower joint longer rod pad mechanisms. I see that there's some longitudinal play in the long rods to the lower pads which may be contributing to the rattles. All the screws are tight and fit well. I had an idea to dismantle and insert some thin felt washers to take up the slack. Be grateful for any thoughts - might this be a good idea or any other suggestions mightly welcome.
Thank you
John
