If you already have pdf's, (from, e.g, http://imslp.org), no scanning is needed.
You don't need an expensive scanner, if you are starting from paper; it just needs to save the scans as pdf's
How well the software recognizes dynamic and articulation markings depends a lot on the quality of the original. It is consistently poor on grace notes, cue notes and text.
