There are three of us who play Bass Clarinet in a New Horizons band. The band leader has decided that this semester all the members should also form small groups. The other two Bass players thought it might be interesting to do a Bass Clarinet trio. There are two low C instruments and one low Eb. Our skill level is moderate, and we would like to keep the high notes to written C6 or lower (at least for the two low C instruments). I've found a lot of music written for Soprano Bb and very little specifically for Bass clarinets, but the note range is often too high or the music is too complicated for our older fingers. The two I've come across so far are Handel's Sarabande from Suite in D minor, and Mendelssohn's Nocturne. Both are written for Soprano Bb's but would probably work with Basses. (My wife says Sarabande is slow and dull!). Any suggestions for other pieces? Along with where the music is available?
Thanks, John
(By the way, I think Sarabande is fine if not played too slowly)
