 case modification

I need to know some basics of case construction, specifically the adhesive used to bond fabric (e.g. plush, velvet or velveteen) to rigid or semi-rigid foam. The object is to create shaped foam blocks covered with suitable fabric, and then glue them in place in the case interior.

The spray adhesives sold by foam shops are tricky to use for this purpose. Once I coat the back side of a fabric piece it becomes very delicate to handle as I transfer it to wrap a shaped foam block. A dab of glue on the front side is fatal. It seems you only get once chance to make the attachment, so I rehearse the process before committing. But after a number of projects I'm still getting a lot of duds!

Any hints on technique and supplies?
thanks
John
