 Clarinetist on Fosse/Verdon
Author: Grabnerwg

Last night I was watching episode one of the Fosse/Verdon mini series. In the show they featured some dance numbers from Cabaret. I'm sure we all know the beautiful clarinet writing in this show (and also later in Chicago).

As I was watching, I became very impressed by the clarinet playing. Just superb!

I was wondering if anybody knows who recorded the score for this production, and who the clarinetist is? I would sure like to know.

Can't help you there, Walter, except to say that it seems to be a NY production from the ground up, so what recording there is, is being done there. Looking at the FX website for the show, it seems some old original cast recordings might be used (remastered) for some numbers on the soundtrack, so it's possible you're hearing a clarinet player from 30-40 years ago. I'll keep poking around & report back if I discover anything.

I'm sure John Moses would know. John ... ?
