Funny, I've done the same thing to both of my 10Gs (using Buffet movable thumb rests), which I carry in a Buffet attache case like yours, I think, and I haven't noticed the same problem. But I don't use pads on the thumb rests, so maybe that's a difference. You could try to hollow out a place for the thumb rests in their new spots. Or punch a hole in the cloth to make it easier to push into the Styrofoam (I think) underneath. I have a feeling mine must have made their own adjustments over a short period of time.

Unless the cosmetic damage is really an issue (if you have to cut the covering), it's a lot cheaper than getting a new case.
