My Imperial had the top section replaced under warranty in 1982 because of a crack that emerged but top and bottom sections have close but differing serial numbers following the factory replacing the top section.
Anyone else experienced the same?

I meant to say in my original post that the replacement top sections serial number does date it to 1982, so both have differing 1982 serial numbers.

At that time I'm pretty sure that B & H had started to wind down some of their instrument production. I suspect that rather than produce a replacement top joint for you they just used a completed one from the stuff they had in hand. It would have already been numbered whereas if they had made you one it would have been numbered in accordance with the instrument you already owned.
I've heard of (but never seen) B & H replacement joints that had the original instrument serial number with the prefix '"R", indicating a replacement.

Hi,
I have a old Bb clarinet, maybe from the 20-30th, from D.Noblet.
The snr. is 7589 on the top joint, 7598 0 on the lower joint. My idea, the lower joint was replaced, mistake by the snr. and a 0 for the replacement.
