 Help on reed sizes!!

Hey guys, I'm having a lot of trouble on reed sizes. Size 3s are getting to be too soft for me but I've been trying to play on 3.5s for at least half a year and its still too hard! I've been using the Vandoren Traditional reeds. Any help would be appreciated!
