In 1995 I was working at the Interlochen Summer camp, and was enlisted to play in the Traverse Symphony Orchestra for a few of their summer concerts. One of the pieces was Candide overture- and I was given the E flat part (along with an R13 E flat clarinet). My experiences with E flat had been quite hellish prior to that, so I was NOT enthusiastic about this development.
Well, a local player (forgotten his name, but he still has my music for the Lilburn Sonatina) lent me his E flat clarinet mouthpiece, a scratched up old french blank refaced by Bob Scott, and holy camoly THAT changed the game.
For the first time in my life I could play E flat, and LOVED it. For the next 10 years E flat clarinet was "my jam" (Brad Behn sorted me out with my own mouthpiece in '96, and I have played that since- two other players have tried to buy it off me, so I take that as a good sign!)
So while I never met Bob Scott, I heard a lot about him and he turned on the lights for me where E flat clarinet was concerned.
