Last year I started playing the clarinet again after a 30 year break. I have been using the same clarinet that my parents bought me in High School. I would like to buy a new professional model clarinet.
For Buffets there appear to be places that will hand select clarinets from the factory then let you try multiple ones. This seems to take the guess work out of the process. However, I have been thinking of getting a Backun -I tried one out last year and liked it. There doesn't seem to be similar businesses for Backun clarinets. I was wondering why this was and what would be the best method of buying a Backun clarinet. Is buying online without trying the specific clarinet ok? Do they all play pretty much the same? Or should I go to a local place to try multiple clarinets and choose the best one? I live in Maryland, are there any good music stores in Maryland or surrounding states that would have a good stock of Backun clarinets?
My second question... I have been looking at the Backun model Q and model Fs. Has anyone used these ? What are the major differences between the two? I know that the model F has a vented F, but besides that they seem very similar, but the price is quite a bit different.
