The oval badge will be different depending on the age - earlier ones were formed from sheet metal and completely smooth on the underside.
Later ones are cast and are either uneven on the underside so don't sit in the recess evenly and the most recent have the sprue left in place on the back which fits into a blind hole drilled into the middle of the recess on the top joint to help them stay in place.
If you want the earlier type without the sprue on the back to be more secure, you can soft solder a brass stub or nickel silver wood screw to the back of it, drill a hole into the top joint and then glue it in place. Then fill in any gaps around the edge of it with black wax once it's in place.
