Hi friends!
I recently purchased an old german clarinet without photo on the Internet
(reckless act))), the inscriptions on it read as
"L. Kolbe Altenburg B" on all parts.
Clarinet is in a bad condition and needs full overhaul (it's so expensive).
Does it make sense to do this?
Is it a good instrument, anyone knows about it?
I will be grateful for any information)

The New Langwills shows Louis Kolbe as being active in Altenburg between 1893 and 1930, and collaborating with Ernst Schmidt on the Schmidt-Kolbe reform Boehm clarinet. He also held a patent with R. Jordan on a new flute. Is your clarinet a Boehm?

Under (MIMO Louis Kolbe), UEDIN:4912 ff. 8 Schmidt- Kolbe clarinets from the University of Edinbourgh music instruments collection are listed. From other internet sources I see that these were quite special instruments, e.g. can't play in tune with normal Bb- mouthpieces but need special ones. Fritz Wurlitzer is said to have made Schmidt- Kolbe clarinets some time ago.
