The answer to your prayer is Robert Donington's "Baroque Music, Style and Performance." If you cannot find it in a bookstore or library, you can borrow it for 14 days from Archive.org. If you read French, Antoine Geoffroy-Dechaume's "Les secrets de la musique ancienne, Recherches su l'interpretation" is packed with practical playing examples. Then there is Arnold Dolmetch's "The Interpretation of the Music of the 17th and 18th Century," which has lavish detail about tempi, rhythmic alteration and ornaments.
