 Bundy keys

Does anyone know what Bundy keys were made of 20-30 years ago? I've just been trying to adjust a RH ring height problem on a student's Bundy that used to be her mom's clarinet. I only wanted to bend the top bridge key down by a hair, something I've done on other clarinets including my own (Selmer 10G), but it was a major effort to get it to move even that much. I started to consider adding a piece of cork or replacing the cork entirely with something thicker, but I finally got it to budge and I think the problem is solved.

Where those keys unusually hard? Is there a safe way to bend them without risking breaking a solder joint?

Karl
