Oehler system basses even have a fully automatic triple vent mechanism - so all the three vents open and close at specific notes with the single thumb touch.
So like the usual automatic double speaker mechanism, the lowest vent is open for throat Bb and upper register B-D#/Eb. That vent then closes and the middle vent opens when RH3 is raised for the notes E-G#/Ab.
Then when LH3 is raised, the middle vent closes and the crook key vent opens for the notes A-C. The middle vent (plus uncovering the aperture in the LH1 fingerplate) will be open for the lower altissimo (C#/Db to F).
The triple vent mechanism will help the notes F and F# which can be troublesome on basses with the two speaker vents - the middle vent is another vent located between them, so not pushing the upper vent to it's limits which can cause problems with the F and F#.
