Since a few days, I have a BAM Performance case (the briefcase model) for a single Bb clarinet. When I travel on business trips, I only have one clarinet with me anyway.
First of all, the case was €165 (US $185) so it was not exactly inexpensive. I have though about the slightly cheaper Trekking model, but decided for the Performance for three reasons:
- it has a slide to attach it to a trolley; invaluable when travelling.
- it has two small pouches on the outside, which come handy for stuff like reeds
- the handle is in a more logical position for me (on the long side of the case)
Just like the Trekking, the Performance has a compartment for music (A4 fits, but no music folder). There is no room for a music stand, but I would never get that through airport secuirty anyway.
Slightly disappointing; there are no pencil straps inside the case. In a €165 case, I had expected those. Apart from this minor (but irritating) nuisance, the case looks and feels very well made. For me, the foam inside gives a better impression than the Protec cases I have seen (which are around €100 here). Since the BAM case is supposedly modeled around the Buffet RC model, I was not surprised that my clarinet was a perfect fit.

Of course it has to prove itself in practice. I read bad stories about BAM zippers, but I hope they have solved that problem in the meantime. And if it occurs, then hopefully within the first two years (we have 24 months warranty in the EU).
