Ron Odrich interview--still going strong at 85
Author: seabreeze

Ron Odrich is still playing at age 85, and playing very well. He continues to rethink the clarinet every day. In this interview, he talks about voicing on the clarinet from his perspective as a periodontist and a performer who has studied the instrument with Abato, Defranco, Marcellus, Allard, and many other luminaries yet continues to question everything and change whatever he thinks needs to be changed. His ruminations on legato, tongue placement, and awareness of the physiology of breath control and support deserve attention and further discussion. Altogether, this is one of the best interviews Ed Joffe has done in his excellent series of interviews.
