I wonder if you could find trial packs for Eb clarinet nowadays. Like this:

I bought a box of every reed type and figured out which one worked best for me (surprisingly, Vandoren blue box). I play on V12s on my Bb so sometimes carrying reed types over to the Eb isn't a straightaway answer.

I learned Eb by using the "cut a Bb reed" method, but I really disliked it and if you don't cut it at a perfect angle it snaps. I think the machine-cut reeds are good enough nowadays to get away with just buying them outright. My life has been much easier!
