Teflon tape works great.
Most cork grease has solvents in it that seep into the cork and dissolve the cement. Doctor's is supposed to avoid that.

Don't use alchohol on plastic bodies, it makes them brittle. Also, it's way easy to burn the cork or instrument when applying the wax. You can skip the wax.
