I thinking I should experiment with some reeds but I'm not sure which ones are worth trying.
I'm about grades 6-7 AMEB and playing a Yamaha 650 and a Yamaha 4c mouthpiece and Vandoren 3.5 reeds (blue box).
And also some mouthpieces that I could try if I get the chance (no clarinet shops where I live so I'm ordering the reeds from the internet somewhere)
Thanks in advance.

I have a Yamaha 650 and use a Vandoren B45 mouthpiece on it which I get on well with. I use Vandoren 3 reeds either blue box or V12's.

NP.
I play a Yamaha CS Custom (your 650 is almost as good) with a B45. I use VD Blue Box 3 1/2. On MPs, I have had very good luck with the Rico Reserve X10 (D'Addario) and the Rico Reserve and Concert Grand reeds are a good match. If you want to add a ligature, a Luyben for about $12 US is a great upgrade.
IMHO, you could spend a lot more but what I have suggested is a "value package" that should provide you with a lot of bang for your buck. The quality control on the MPs is very good.
My guess is you could pick up used a B45 MP on an auction site but there is always a risk of a warped or damage piece. However, my best B45 (it has a little chip in the tip BTW) came with a junk clarinet.
Good luck.

I know that some on this Board have had no particular problem with the Yamaha mouthpieces but I have never met one that I could even play properly.
My suggestion would be to look at a Vandoren mouthpiece first. The M13 (non Lyre) is a good mouthpiece for any occasion. After that I might suggest the Masters CL4.
Of course if a local store has access (or you are willing to take the chance via the internet), the ESM (short for Ernst Schreiber Michelstadt) mouthpiece with the MCK-1 facing is amazing (and not hideously expensive).
For my money you cannot do better than Vandoren reeds. Of course you might want to try 56 Rue Lepics for more focus or the V21s for a nice combination of robustness and color.

My last experience with a 650 was with a Selmer HS-Star mouthpiece and Vandoren V12 reeds in strength 3,0. It was an excellent combination.
