Am in the process of breaking in some 56 Rue Lepic reeds. I am just amazed at the response, tuning accuracy, and sheer playability of these. They just do whatever I want with minimal effort on my part.
But, they really fall short in the timbre department. They lack the resonance and sparkle of the Vandoren Traditional, and the richness and sonority of the V12. Thin, dull, and totally uninspiring is how I'd characterize the tonal palette afforded by the 56.
Can anyone suggest an alternative to these, with the general playability tendencies of the 56 but with more core and sparkle to the sound? I am using a Behn-customized mouthpiece with a medium tip opening and medium-short facing length built from a vintage Chedeville blank. Thanks!
