Selmer also made Bb and A clarinets with Mazzeo System (named after its inventor Rosario Mazzeo of the Boston Symphony Orchestra) whereby throat Bb is played with the throat A key with the addition of putting down any LH or RH main action fingers (except LH3 on the basic models).

While the left thumb is off the thumb plate (it has a covered plate instead of a thumb ring), putting down the LH or RH fingers opens a tonehole in the same location as the Bb trill key on clarinets, so you can do a G-A trill by trilling any main action fingers or A-Bb by holding the throat A key open and trilling with any main action fingers.

While it made intervals with A or Bb to the upper register easy, it did mean you had to play open G or throat G#/Ab as a fully 'open' note without any RH (or LH) fingers closed for resonance or in preparation for going to an upper register note as you can on a standard clarinet.
