I think the most notable thing to say about these reeds is that upon my first play through (about 5 minutes a piece) it reminded me of a Marcellus comment from over 30 years ago. There was a particular student attending the regular summer master classes at Northwestern who had a really nice sound. Robert Marcellus even commented,"You have nice round sound with a candle in the middle of it."
These reeds seem to have this sound to them. They have more of the "colors" I associate with the V12, but there is a real core to the sound. I wouldn't say that these reeds are exactly what you'd expect from a narrow, Rue Lepic cut reed with a V12 vamp. The combination actually creates it's own unique sound.
After 5 days, I am not blown away as I was on first impression, but it is a welcome addition to the Vandoren offerings. If you like Vandorens you WILL like the 21s. But if you are IN LOVE with the V12s you may not appreciate the 'extra punchiness.'
