1D - 348D were made in 1889.
349D - 999D were made in 1890.
A high-pitch instrument will almost certainly have H.P. stamped on the bell.
You can tell a C clarinet because the barrel is much shorter than on a Bb.
My 1929 Buffet C is 20-5/16" long from the top of the barrel to the bottom of the bell. The barrel is 1-15/16". A high-pitch C will be at least 1/2" shorter.
