 New Rico "Prototype" Reed
Author: johnhcl

I'm sure some people heard of the new Rico reed that has been in prototype mode... Does anyone know when it's going to be released to the public though?

Someone I know was trying it out a couple of months back, but wouldn't give any details, was keeping pretty tight lipped about it... dn

All I can say is "wow" - better than ever.

If I didn't like it, I'd be one extremely unhappy camper.

My loyalty is to the product, not the brand. It exceeded my expectations, which is quite refreshing.

Combined with my MoBa, is "self steering" ;)

Given the uptick in quality noted in Rico products of late, I'm rather anxious to see and play what they're cooking up this time...

Looking forward to hearing more.

If they need more testers, I would be happy to help!

It's still proprietary until the reed is released to the public.

But from it, I am changing my primary reed (from one style to the other).

Not saying which to which, but yup - sold me!

That good!!

David, do you know anything about their new saxophone mouthpiece?

I hope it's classically-oriented.

My guess is Jazz but I don't know - far many more signed Jazz Artists.

I was hoping that it would be the Reserve mouthpiece for saxophone.

I was hoping for that too, classical saxophonist. The reserve x10 is my backup clarinet mouthpiece, would have liked to try a sax equivalent.

@ DB...
That's very nice that you now have a reed/mouthpiece combination that "plays itself". Can you answer the question posed in the OP though? The news that the reed is good has not been kept secret, we don't need you to tell us that...
@ Sax panther and Classical Saxophonist...
I agree- the sax version of the Reserve mouthpiece would be really really really useful.

Don - that is confidential.

If a release date was announced, I'd say.

I wouldn't have even mentioned that the reed existed if it hadn't already been known.

And Donald - don't you think there is a reason why your friend was tight lipped about it???

Hence my posting "all I can say"......

Confidential is just that.

your posting seems to serve a purpose that isn't related to the OP and is really just advertising for Rico (and your ego) if all you can say is "it's really good"

Donald, it also serves a purpose to let those who do know when they are being released that the info is still not public knowledge.

So attack me if that feels good to you, but it is what it is.

I'm not a shill for anyone, anything. If i like a product, I'll say so, and am a straight shooter.

David: I think you're a vital and honest member of the bboard. I think you believe in the products you support irrespective of artist affliation, and what forms of compensation (from money, to fee free/reduced products etc., to nothing) may come your way as a result.

Maybe the concern is that you wouldn't say if you felt a product in which you maintained an artist afflication was bad. But I don't know that for fact, and it's only a question, not an accusation.

==========

I too look forward to anything high end that Rico has plans to bring to market. I think their Reserve line, both reeds and mouthpieces are outstanding. But I also know that anything cane will have limitations, and that all moving parts, including reeds: synthetic or cane, are subject to wear and tear, and thus degredation over time.

I guess what I am saying is that I too wait with anticipation for another gem from Rico in the clarinet player's arsenal in this new product, but not the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow: not that anyone said it was.

@donald

give David a break he is dancing on a tight rope.. he can only say as much.

Think of it as waiting to see movie on Netflix instead rushing to movie theater

With respect to giving a plug to Rico, they sponsor him.. and it isn't as he is dishonest and trying to push inferior product.

What I would say is that "I prefer" something else.

Example: I currently prefer the regular Reserve over the reserve Classic Reed.

I'll comment further when it's fair game about the new reeds. If I don't like something, I do say.

The only real pot of Gold is practice methodology.....

Other things make playing the Clarinet easier, more efficiently, comfortable for the player, etc., but the bottom line always is effective practice that yields the real results.
