 Antigua clarinet

I recently acquired a student-level Antigua clarinet. These were, I believe, developed by or in colaberation with Morrie Backun, so I was a bit surprised to find that it was almost unplayable by someone with hands like mine. The left hand long pinkie keys are about a quarter inch too long, and any attempt to use the l/h pinkie C sharp key also results in pressing the left hand long pinkie keys. I have large hands with broad spatulate fingers, but even so I have no difficulty in playing most conventionally arranged Boehm clarinets. My personal instruments have the keys shaved and shaped for my personal convenience, but I generally have no problem playing standard instruments. It is difficult to see why these keys were made this way, it makes little sense. Has anybody else experienced this?
