I'm looking to buy a 60mm clarinet barrel. Has anybody used the Scott clarinet barrels and, if you have, what did you think of them? Also, have any of you tried the Click barrel (adjustable 61-67mm) and what do you think of them? Thanks in advance:)

I need a barrel that short because I rent an A clarinet from a local music store and the 65mm and 55mm barrels it comes with don't do the trick. The 65mm is WAY flat and the 55mm is WAY sharp. I end up using the 55mm and pulling out the top 3 joints to get it in pitch. Most notes are in pitch but several aren't. I just bought a new Bb clarinet a year ago and can't afford to buy an A at this time, so I rent. If I need to rent it again, I want a different barrel so I don't have to do so much adjusting of so many joints.

A 10 mm difference is not reasonable. This is a mistake - if it truly is 55mm, it is for a different brand of clarinet.
Buffet's - the default (for a Bb) is 66 mm. I have 66, 65, and 64 mm for my Bb.
Anything shorter is not functional.
What brand of instrument is this for?

What brand is the A clarinet. Selmers use shorter barrels then Buffets but a 60 sounds awfully short. I use a 62.5 on my Selmer Signature Bb, I still use my Buffet A so I can't compare.

For your interest: the "new" Martin Freres company's B-34 B-flat clarinet comes with a cocobolo barrel - I emailed the company to ask how long the barrel is and was informed by them that it is 60 mm. When I expressed some surprise at how short this seemed, they didn't think it anything unusual. So possibly you could approach them to acquire such a barrel.

My A clarinet, a V Kohlert Sons, requires a 58 mm barrel to play in tune.

When I first rented the clarinet I posted a question on BBoards asking if anybody had ever heard of the brand. Unfortunately, I've returned the clarinet and don't recall exactly what brand it was. Nobody who replied to my BBoard posting had ever heard of it and they steered me away from buying it. It "might" have been an L. Henri or something similar to that name. I did google searches and got no hits from the name.

Yes, I returned it on Tuesday. I needed to rent it for only a short period of time. However, I'm afraid I may need to rent it again in the future and I don't want to experience the same frustration with the barrel length that I experienced this time. The click barrel seemed like a good solution until I couldn't get enough air into it to make it play...maybe my mpc didn't fit tight enough? The rental clarinet came with both 65mm and 55mm barrels and the rental shop threw in a click barrel when I told them the issues I was having. The 65mm plays off-the-scale flat. The 55mm plays off-the-scale sharp, but at least I can pull out 3 different joints to get to it play in tune on most, but not all notes. That's why I'm asking about the 60mm barrel from Scott. It's possible that it's an affordable alternative for me if folks have used it and liked it.

Seems like a better solution, if you can find a place to provide it, would be to rent an instrument made by one of the standard French-American companies - Buffet, Selmer, Leblanc, etc. Is that the only A clarinet the store has available? Or transpose the part for Bb clarinet? It sounds like you'e putting yourself at the mercy of an instrument that causes more trouble than it saves.
What will you be playing that calls for A clarinet?

Unfortunately, it was the only one for rent in this entire valley of over 200,000 people. All others had already been rented to college kids. I also searched on the web for a rental with no success. Pirates of Penzance calls for an A clarinet. One BBoard member very graciously transposed all of the A into Bb for me. A couple of the songs had so many flats in them, though, that I still needed an A. I'm kind of over-a-barrel on this one.
