 synthetic reeds and excessive moisture
Author: Maruja

I have just gone back to using a Legere reed as I was getting squeaks on a plastic Yamaha that I am using while my other clarinet is being serviced. It is a good workhorse, but I am finding an awful lot of moisture on the reed, mouthpiece and around the tone holes. Is this usual? Is it because the synthetic material does not absorb humidity like the cane ones? Is it because the clarinet I am using is plastic?

If so, apart from swabbing more frequently, is there anything more I can do to prevent this?

Thanks in advance for any replies!
