Never heard this before

Never before has my instructor ever talked about how we get past all the notes, rhythm, tempo, and all the other things, into what the heart of music really is. In simpler terms, what does playing clarinet mean to you? For me, it keeps me going through the grieving process and helps me deal with the facts having a chronic condition presents.
