 old clarinet?

i got this "old" clarinet a few years ago. i doubt theres anything special about it since theres no model or seriel number anywhere, but im curious about what i have here.

its slightly smaller than my Bb. its plastic. all the keys look crudely made -rather flat and misshapen. the register key a set off to the left and. the throat A key is nearly square. there are only 2 side (trill? keys) and they are rather large. the position of the thumb rest makes it nearly impossible to use the right hand. i think the most interesting part are the pads which are red and quishy and the cork..is not cork but red thread.

so what do you guys think? what do i got here? anyone know?

Lemme guess, Jan.
Please correct me if I'm off the beam.
It's a 'simple system', made in Russia, China or India... or somewhere thereabouts. Your guess is as good as anybody's. Would be interesting to know how you acquired it. Those things are turning up on eBay more and more frequently. I've seen the Russian made version. It's, well :[ ... they're about as flimsy as it gets. Recycled pressed cardboard and aluminum cans. Oh, yes - and red thread. Most conscientious repair shops refuse to work on them.

Any markings on it at all, Jan? I wouldn't call it a total loss. An interesting display/conversation piece or something, maybe. I don't think, if it's comparable to the one I saw up close, that you could do any serious playing for long with it.

Yep. eBay would probably be your best bet if you want to shuck it. I wouldn't take it apart though. Pot metal keys are nearly impossible to fix. They'd be a challenge for JBWeld even though Paul Harvey recommends it - highly - for everything :]
The ones I've noticed on eBay usually sell for, well, maybe not a thousand bucks but, *something* :) Maybe you could trade it for a slide trumpet. Yes!

You can still find them on eBay listed as 13 or 14 key albert system clarinets from Bombay, India. I think folks are getting wise to this seller as the last few didn't get any bids.

I also got suckered into buying something similar for $50. I'd recommend that you make a lamp out of it!
