I have only been playing for a little over one month and am absolutely in love with this wonderful instrument, however I would appreciate some advice from more experienced players on the ever emotive subject of reeds.
I currently play with a Vandoren standard 2.5,Hite Premiere mouthpiece and Rovner C1r ligature, and am progressing very well, recently I purchased a Legere 3.25 reed out of curiosity and have been immensly pleased with it.The sound I am able to produce seems to my somewhat inexperienced ear to be much cleaner especially my tongueing and also much smoother in the upper register.
I would like to keep the Legere as a standby reed so that I always have a good reliable reed and use cane for the majority of my playing,(I am worried about accidentely damaging it and as they are quite expensive cannot really justify spares although I realize the Legere should have a longish life.)
I have found the Vandoren standards to be quite inconsistent and some reeds seem to lose their will to live after a very short time and would like to try other reeds, perhaps Vandy V-12's, Neuranter ,Sinus F ,Grand Concert Select etc.
As a mere newcomer to clarinetting I am not at the stage of making adjustments to the reeds myself and would be very grateful for any suggestions on where to go next on my reed quest.I am sorry that this post is so long but am not known to be stuck for words too often.
By the way I am currently playing a Buffet E-13 and B-12,(both great.)
