Hi,
I am new to the forum and i just bought a new pair of "Herbert Wurlitzer" clarinets and i wanted to share with you my first impression.
I am a clarinet player, (not professional) and i play mostly chamber music.
I am playing for more then 25 years and i have the SELMER PARIS 10S both Bb and A key with Backun barrels and bells.
After a long time i have decided to look for a new pair, i have tested the new SELMER PARIS Privilege, the new Buffet Tosca and the Luis Rossi American style clarinet.
I must say that all of the instruments are very good but there is something missing with the tuning, (actually the Rossi was the best form the group).
So I have decided to buy the instruments that Sabine Meyer and Karl Laister play, (only in the reform Bohem style).
I Ordered the instruments and got them after two or three months, (actually i was extremely lucky and got them really fast). The handling and embouchure management is different, you have to change your embouchure and make it less stressful, (when playing a French clarinet we manipulate our lips all the time) the holding angle of the clarinet is different you have to raise the clarinet and hold it like you hold an oboe. Once you remember all that the sound you get is amazing, i mean round, dark and sweet. the tuning is perfect and the response is amazing.
With the clarinets you get two mouthpieces: one is specially design to get French sound and you can use the vandoren V12 reeds, and the other is a German mouthpiece and you use the Vandoren white master reeds. Those are truly remarkable instruments and I cant wait playing them with my chamber music assembly.

If I could justify it and money wasn't an issue, I'd probably go for a set of Wurlitzer reform Boehms.
Just seen a Wurlitzer reform Boehm basset horn in Howarth's 2nd hand list.

FYI, there are a pair of Fritz Wurlitzer Oehler system clarinets listed on Clarinets Direct. They're not Reform Boehm, so maybe not ideal for you, but they're at a reasonable price.

WOW!!!!
That is an amazing price, also considering that they are the covetted Fritz instruments. I payed that in '84 for a new pair of Herberts, but that was when the Deutsch Mark was at just 40 cents !!!!!

Btw - what is needed is for him to LISTEN to comments/complaints that a player who makes their living on them, and not let the ego close the mind.
I know that you work for them. Put in the time that you've played them, then maybe quadruple it, and listen to my previous comments!

Unbelievable. David, I thought you were a professional. Obviously, I was wrong.
I guess my previous comment was just too subtle for you. No PROFESSIONAL would go about and spread anywhere - never mind internationally - rumors they overheard in a corridor. For any reason. I'm sure Rico and Backun haven no control over what you say here, but unfortunately for them it does reflect badly. Not only do you spread rumors, you then go and try to justify your unprofessional behavior.
Incredible. Normally I'd delete the posts and counsel outside the forum, but since the damage has already been done - even though you edited your posts recently - I'm doing this in public. Hopefully people will read down to the bottom of this thread in the future.
