I bought an old dirty clarinet at a flea mkt years ago for $25 bucks because I saw the name Buffet on it. after cleaning it up some, The maker was August Buffet. Buffet Crampon says he was the brother of Jean Louis of Crampon fame. He made clarinets from 1865 - 73. They recommended the Langwell index for more info, is there anybody out there who has a copy and is willing to give me some information. The serial # is in the low 100's. thank you
jr

Do a search on Auguste Buffet in this BBoard. The serial numbers won't be cross-referenced, though.

Trust me there were Auguste Buffet's made long after 1873. I used one in the mid to late fifties when I was in Junior High School. It was a full Boehm and had all the extra keys. It was a very nice clarinet.
Let me know about yours.
Thanks,
Jack Swickard
