I have a wood clarinet i'm trying to sell but the only info I have on it is serial number and the name "The WoodWind Company" New York. I can't find any information on this company anywhere yet my local retailer said it was a manufacturer? Can someone help me out please?

It may be quite difficult to determine the actual manufacturer, since probably it is a "stencilled"clar. ; made by a US mfgr. [ Bettoney, Pedler, Pruefer, Conn] or a French, [Buffet, Martin etc] and sold as a Woodwind. Mark C will be able to give you info re: WW, my acquaintance was via a visit to their New York "shop" in the mid '50's about their excellent mouthpieces [some still are available thru the discounters, suggest a G8 facing !!] . Others, please help! Don

As Don says, you can't tell a clarinet by its label, and some stencil sellers got clarinets from several different makers. However, each maker's instruments looked slightly different, and an experienced repair tech can recognize which is which. If there's a music store with an old guy in the basement doing repairs, that's probably the place to take it. If you're near New York City I can tell you a couple of places to go.
Best regards.
