 Pre-1800 Trio Repertoire
Author: Niiiiiiick

I'm entering a competition next year with my chamber music trio (clarinet, violin and piano) and we need something pre-1800 as part of it. As far as I'm aware there's nothing, but does anyone have any good ideas of arrangements of good stuff to do?

something by Wagenseil? (not sure of spelling, last saw this piece in the CCM library in 1998!)

Does your violinist play viola? If so, then you might play the Mozart Kegelstatt.

Both the Wagenseil and Vanhal trios were written before 1800.

The Wagenseil trio was written in the early 1770s.

The 6 trios by Johann Baptist Vanhal, including his "popular" Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano, Op. 20, No. 5, in E flat, were first published in 1775 (Chevrardiere, Paris). The second edition was in 1781 (Leduc). One current edition is Schott.
