How many reeds do you get in a dime bag?
Are they cut with anything?

As self serving as it is, I have to point out the Leblanc Bliss clarinet the poor kid who had to pay $5 for a reed is playing.

$5 is the "street" price. Anything cheaper, and your dealer has no "street cred"
Was it really a VD reed? (watch out for counterfeits)
I hear there are whole communes growing Arundo donax (AD) in the arroyos. It is the new CASH CROP.
And now I hear that there is a new spinoff show in the works:
