I agree with having an extension added to the left hand keys is probably the way to go. I had that problem in my right hand, my fingers reached but felt a strain. I lowered the thumb rest considerably and it feels great. On my new Selmer, which came with an adjustable thumb rest, something you can get installed if you don't have one, I even had that made longer to bring my pinky closer to the lower keys.
