Does anybody know which clarinets Manuel DeFalla requires for his 1916 full orchestral version of the Ritual Fire Dance? I know that this version (there are six others!) calls for two clarinets, but what keys of clarinets does he specify? Clarinet in A? B-flat?
I've seen conflicting information about Igor Stravinsky's 1910 ballet, "The Firebird," and the 1911 "Firebird Suite." Some sources say the score calls for three clarinet players, unspecified except that one of them doubles on E-flat clarinet. Other sources say the score calls for three clarinets, unspecified except that one of them doubles on clarinet in D, and also calls for a bass clarinet. Can anyone say for sure?
Thanks very much!
