I have a 1979 R-13 serial # 193712. I have had a couple people tell me that it is worth a bit of money - one person said because it was part of a select span on serial numbers. Is there anything to this? I have always loved the tone of my instrument.

Even though Stradivarious is generally regarded as one of the greatest violin makers in history and probably never made a "bad" instrument not all Strad violins are equal and only a small number of famous name instruments fetch the really big money.
So with Buffet so called golden period during which arguably the "average" standard was somewhat higher then at other times even so the range of quality within a batch of 100 or 1000 clarinets still varied considerably with the very best being superb but with plenty of dog examples as well.
So the value of your R13 still depends upon where it came within the quality range of the time as well of course as what condition it is in after all those years.

Even though some of the "Golden Era" R13s might have a higher price than a used R13 from another period, I have never seen them at a higher price than new instruments.
This is different than Mark VI saxophones that can be sold sometimes for amazingly high prices.
