Former Packer QB Selected as GB Symphony Music Director
Shoulder should not be an issue next season
AP- (Green Bay, WI) - June 1: The Green Bay Symphony has announced the appointment of former Packer quarterback and fan favorite Brett Favre as the next music director of the orchestra after a month long search. An anonymous source told the Associate Press, "Favre was available after his contract talks with the Vikings fell through. We needed a strong presence on the podium to fill seats so the whole deal just made sense." Contract specifics were not released but it is assumed that the deal is a multiyear contract with a guaranteed bonus of $12 million in the first year. If incentives such as filled seats, memorized scores, and appearances by the Packers cheerleaders at events hosted by the GBSO board of directors, are met, Favre's contract is estimated to top out at over $20 million with the option of an automatic renewal.
"I am excited about returning to the Green Bay community and performing indoors instead of outside in Lambeau Field. Given my experience leading two-minute drills in the fourth quarter of many memorable games, I am sure that my tempi in the finales of great masterpieces such as Tchaikovsky 4th Symphony will be much faster than any of the dull Chicago or Cleveland recordings out there," said Favre at today's press conference. "From what I can tell, leading a symphony orchestra is much easier than what I had to do on the football field. But I'm going to take it one day at a time until I have each concert's playbook memorized."
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was unavailble for comment when AP staff tried earlier this afternoon. When reached by phone at his Paris residence, CSO principal guest music director Pierre Boulez commented, "I have always enjoyed watching Mssr. Favre dissect the Chicago Bears in their annual contests and think that he has all the attributes necessary to make a world-class music director - charm, wit, and an oversized ego."

Rumour has it that Stanley Drucker and Larry Combs are now playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The "huddles" are much more interesting now with references to clarinet reeds and such. Time will tell whether these guys have the versatility to pull this off. I'm really not sure as both players were specialists in the orchestra.....although both were capable of Mozart and Corigliani. Tony Pays' agent has been approached but says Tony insists on wearing a vintage period uniform with a leather helmut. I'm not ruling him out as football fans are clamouring for his acquisition. Pittsburgh should be a "shoe in " this year.
