I'm in love with an old Penzel Mueller Artist clarinet. Both bell notes (low E and middle-line B) are slightly flat (8 cents or so) and slightly stuffy. The old Selmers I'm used to playing are a little flat at the bottom of the chalumeau but perfect in the clarion, so with them it seems to be a question of imperfect twelfths and favoring the clarion. But on this PM the twelfth seems dead on, just both notes are a little flat. Could this be cured by cutting a vent hole in the bell? Or is something like the Fobes Eb extension available for Bb clarinets?
