Just to let people know that I am not in any way involved with any spam marketing ploy by a person giving away an arrangement for clarinet quartet music. I did find out that the person "screen scraped" email addresses from Woodwind.Org (literally by asking the person how they obtained my email!) and added those addresses to their own private email list.
If it would have been just a single spam I wouldn't have cared (indeed, I might have visited the site since something of value was exchanged) but I actually had to UNSUBSCRIBE from something I never subscribed to. That is irritating to say the least. If I ever do decide to create an email list for advertisers to rent, it would be a double opt-in list and I would never let advertisers have the email addresses - I'd control the mailing, since you never know how many times your address would be resold and you'd have no control once it was out in the "wild". There is no such list at the moment, anyway.
There is an option in your profile to keep your email hidden. While I don't hide mine for obvious reasons, be aware that people do "screen scrape" and gather information from web pages.
I don't know whether or not the person realizes fully what they've done, and I have no idea how good their product is, but I do know they need to examine their business practices.
