 New top-of-the-line Buffet model?
Author: drewllbrb

does anyone know about the new buffet model that's supposed to come out soon? There's supposed to be a new Bb and A released that might be better than the Tosca. Anyone heard anything?

Yes.

It is called

The R13 [hot]

Against the windmills of my mind
The jousting pole splinters

Seriously...there is no better...it is all a personal preference. There are some truly extraordinary R13s to be found if you are willing to look long enough...or you know the right people in the right places

I have not heard of a new Buffet model. I have heard about Selmer's new model - the Privilege. One of the features seems to be that the Bb and A are matched and can use the same barrels. You can find them at:

The idea that a design from the 1960s with well-documented intonation and evenness problems can't be improved upon is completely absurd. As a longtime Buffet user, I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

I heard 'round the way that they were considering bringing back the Elite, but with some tweaks. I have no real information on it, though. Just something that trickled through the proverbial grapevine.

They do have a new clarinet but not billed as better than the Tosca.

It's the Limite. You can find more info on Buffet's website.

Well I tried two Toscas in 2005 against my R-13 Prestige set and then against the Festival(when I was picking up a new Bb clarinet) and there was no comparision. Both my R-13 Prestige set and the Festival(2 of them) had more depth in the sou nd and more projection.

Iceland,
I guess that universally proves that the Tosca is a bad instrument doesn't it?[right]

No it proves that I find something else to be better and that I didn't found it worth the price. I mean why does for example Gregory Smith choose to play on the R-13 in the Chicago symphony orchestra. I would think that he has tried the Tosca but he still continues to say that the R-13 is better. Does it mean that R-13 is better than the Tosca? No it doesn't but for Gregory the R-13 is his choice.

It's the R-13.3.4

What was that supposed to mean Tom?

I have yet to find an A clarinet I like more than my Festival...and the only Bb I've liked more than my R13 was a Festival.

Toscas don't work for me.

>> It's the R-13.3.4

That's outdated already. The 13.3.42 is already out. Lukily it should automatically install itself unfortunately it tries to do it for the wrong OS...

Is that R13Vista or R13Leopard?

I heard it is actually the new R13 G3. It projects video while you play so now buffet artists can perform "Beyond the Score" recitals with full video presentation. The problem is, reception is really bad in most preformance venues.

"It projects video while you play.... "

...isn't that kinda like the Holophoner from Futurama?

Yes, and you can play it with one eye, or with lobster claw hands, or even the disembodied head of Leonard Nimoy or Richard Nixon.

And Alan displays even greater flexibility than I would have expected from a woods craftsman/clarinetist/surgeon!!!
