I'd like to know the provenance of this Eb clarinet. It has no markings whatsoever on the barrel, joints or bell.
Notable is that the upper joint has no rings and two trill keys. The lower joint has two RH and two LH pinky keys. Those for the right hand are quite distinctively shaped.
The tenon rings on the barrel are a bit different than the others; perhaps the barrel is not original. The bell ring has a quite distinctive dimple, perhaps from a repair.

The right hand F/C key is of an early "Mueller like" design. Please correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't that style of key go out of fasion by the mid 19th century?

Hi Bennett - You DO have a "golden oldie" which has some similarities to my ?about 1890? Bb clarinet by C H Jerome, later of the firm of Jerome Thibouville Lamaire [ JTL]. As best I can make out your keying structures, I agree with donald that the lower joint "long/low" keys may be the best for identifying age, country and, perhaps, even the maker. While we have a number of "antiquers" on our BBoard, the most knowledgable collectors may be better asked about "finds" like yours on www.earlyclarinet. [a Yahoo Group]. Having given most of my mediocre collectables to Al Rice's Fiske Museum, Claremont Colleges, CA and to Nat'l Music Museum at U of S D, Vermillion, SD, Debbi Reeves, cl expert, they are my experts. Al's book, Clarinet in the Classical Period might be found in [or requested from] a large library, which might give you much provenance. Many of our good "Clarinet" books [look in your libraries] devote a chapter or two to "history". The above two museums and several more, notably that in Edinburgh, Scotland, have web sites with some pics of collections. Very interesting and best of luck, Don

That's Jerome Thibouville-Lamy, Don, not to be confused with the "Lemaire" of SML (Strasser Marigaux Lemaire).
