Did anyone see the NYP last night.
It appeared that Stanley Drucker was playing a Festival or Prestige.
I thought he used the standard R13 exclusively. The Dvorak 7'th was beautifully played.

I could'nt make out what kind of clarinet either he or Nuncio were playing. Stanley looked in the pink...retire? Bah humbug.
I thought the orchestra seemed to be playing under water...
Dvorak's 7th is not exactly a barn burner, but with a different conductor who knows....

I enjoyed the concert and agree with Ken about the Dvorak 7. At time the players sounded less than inspired and more into a workmanlike mode.
The NYP woodwinds continue to impress as all of last night's principals shined. Especially impressive were the flutes (and Mindy Kaufman's piccolo in the Carnival Overture).
The French horns (IMO the NY Philharmonic's weakest section) had a mediocre night.
Drucker continues to be the consummate orchestral clarinetist of our generation. For him, it was just another enjoyable walk in the park...GBK

Ken Shaw really knows his clarinets...to discern all that, even the Galper from a video.
I was joking about their similar appearance. I'm quite familiar with the NY Phil web site.
I've heard the 7th on CDs with some pleasure, I think it was just a sluggish performance. Yo-yo carried on even after finishing playing,all that kissing and hugging (not really welcomed by some) and throwing the flowers into the audience...come on Yo-yo, it was just a performance, you didn't find the lost chord!

I only chanced on the program as I had no prior knowledge. I thought the program was great and especially so as this type of programming isn't shown enough. Why the 7th was selected for an all Dvorak program is a mystery to me but the 9th would have been too obvious. So.....he threw flowers to the audience, so what! I do believe he was exhilarated with his and the orchestra's performance and playing under Maazel so he had steam to let off.
