FYI....On this date in 1923 Benny Goodman began his professional career as a clarinet player at age 14 with a job playing in a band on a Chicago-based excursion boat on Lake Michigan.

My Thanx as well, Hans, I'll bet he played those gigs, quite well ! Back when I began to play in dance bands, 1936 +, I had heard of him, Shaw, Miller, Herman, DorseyS, James, and many others and we tried to play those tunes, but in "stock" arrangements, AH, the Golden Days of Yore ! Don

Benny's job on the excursion boat is portrayed in the movie "The Benny Goodman Story." It's a hokey hollywood type bio but the sound track is by Benny and his players.
In the movie the actor playing Benny plays the rondo from the Mozart concerto at a party...you have to see it to believe it!
