Does anybody have any experience with Hercules stands for clarinet? I've seen them used by flute players in the past (I've thought about getting the combo flute/clarinet stand and putting an Eb and Bb on the two pegs that were made for either flute or clarinet), but they have a bass clarinet stand that looks to be pretty stable (from internet pictures anyway). The price is about half that of some of the other bass stands, so I am wondering if it really is that stable.

I ran down the ad for the Herc. bass cl stand #875 [at Muncy Winds] for $55 via an AOL/Google search [Hercules bass clarinet stand], which [pic] looks quite good to me and much less than quoted prices for the ?K&E? stand. I sure could use one for my "doubling" efforts. Is this post OK, GBK?Thots ?? Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

I love the Hercules stands! I have the 2 flute/clarinet and piccolo stand. The two flute/clarinet pegs can indeed be used for either flute OR clarinet, so it's become my double stand of choice. My E-flat doesn't fit perfectly on those, so I like it better on the piccolo peg. I haven't tried the bass clarinet stand, but I really like that you can leave the peg extended.
Oh, and for you doublers out there, they make an amazing bari sax stand that folds down into a nice small package, a stand that will hold 2 alto/tenor saxes (will fit either) plus a straight soprano plus 2 flutes/clarinets, etc....and they're making more designs all the time.

I've got one of their stands for my A and Bb clarinets with a additional peg to add another instrument (cl, fl, picc). Its very sturdy, easy to setup and strike. I like it a lot.
For the bass clarinet I have a K&M stand. I didn't know Hercules when I was shopping around at the time. The K&M bass clarinet/bassoon/electric cello (something like that) stand came highly recommended from a couple bass clarinetists. It treats me really well also.

Hercules stands are exceptional, in my opinion. I use their mike stand for doubling instruments with different mike heights - the height can be adjusted instantly with one hand.
I checked out their other products at the NAMM show last Jan. Almost all the designs were thoughtful, mechanically sound and often original in some respects. I spoke with the rep at some length, and came away with the idea that I'll always check them first if I'm in the market for a stand.

For bass clarinet I ended up buying the K&M stand because the Hercules stand looked less compact.
For piccolo I was going to get the Hercules flute/picc/clarinet stand but decided I can get a shelf for my music stand and use that for piccolo

I went ahead and ordered two Hercules stands..the bass and the triple clarinet/flute/piccolo. I'll report back when I receive them.
Thank you folks for all your opinions.

They are best stand I've found for the money. After my Blayman "disappeared" on me at a gig, I went through several different brands until settling on Hercules. My only issue to date is that the soft material on the pegs wear away fairly quickly under heavy use (and transport in various cases/bags etc.), but the part in contact with the instrument is still nice and cushy.

The stands arrived yesterday, and I'm not at all disappointed. As everyone has said, they are extremely sturdy. I've never had another bass clarinet stand, but I can't imagine one being any better built than this one is. For the money, it's a no brainer.
And no, the Eb won't fit on the clarinet/flute peg, but does fit nicely on the piccolo peg, so I'm very happy with that too. My old Geovil Noreim (sp?) triple clarinet stand that weighs about 20 pounds has met its match.

Glad to see this discussion. I need new sax/clarinet stand and couldn't decide which one to purchase. Spent some time on Sax on the Web forum and found many lengthy discussions. Ended up confused. Thought I wanted the Pro Tec (but the weight bothered me). After seeing Hank (and others) uses one I think I'll buy one. Only negative I've read is the protective covering tends to wear off.

Hi Bob,
I'm a pretty serious user and have found the Hercules to be perfect (and you know I'm cheap as well). I do not own any interest in the company but really like the innovative way that things unfold (pun intended). These things are "really built."
I use a flugelhorn stand for my soprano and have the alto/tenor combo stand with the clarinet/oboe/flute peg. There are extra holes in this stand and I can always add another peg since the thread for the holes is the same as most of thw extra pages I have already.

PS Golf is good for me; and you? I do hope that at some point my travels take me your way and we can hit the links.

It's not a perfect fit for the alto, but with a little bit of creativity, it would probably work. The bell harness is just a little bit too big for the alto bell...but if you were to make a removable alto saddle for that harness, I think it would work great. (and I will probably do just that)

Hi Hank, golf is strange for me... sometimes good, sometimes bad, always fun. Playing the clarinet and sax is similar, but I don't believe the bads are ever as bad. Problem with golf is our #2 course. It ate me up on Friday, but on Monday I ate up our #4 course. It's almost as hard as #2, but for different reasons.
Right now I'm packing up to go watch the ladies at Pine Needles. Another great course and only 5 miles up the road.
Hit 'em long and straight and play in tune. Ordered the Hercules yesterday.

BB,
Glad you ordered the Hercules; I think you will be surprised by the solid construction. As far as the wear problem, you'll see that the clarinet/flute/oboe peg is coated with a felt-like "substance." It is still better than the all wood pegs.

PS We have three Donald Ross courses in Toledo (one private with no par 5s) and they are always great adventures.
